Miss SEGSBD Scholarship Pageant




Welcome to the Miss Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby Scholarship Pageant!

Pageant Date is February 17, 2024

Deadline to enter: Sunday, February 11, 2024 (ABSOLUTELY NO APPLICATIONS will be taken after this date) 

The Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby (SEGSBD) is a race that educates and inspires youth through fair and honest competition and mentorship, with a primary goal to advance family values. Derby racing is about community and is rooted in innovation. 


10:00 a.m.  Ages 0-9

5:30 p.m. Ages 10+

Interviews will start at 2:00 p.m.

*Practice Friday, February 16, 2024 ­ 5:30pm at Southeastern Technical College, Vidalia, GA


Divisions: Age determined as of pageant date, no fall back period

Baby Miss (0 ­- 11 months)   Toddler Miss (12 - 23 months)   Tiny Miss (2 - 3 years)
Little Miss (4 - 5 years)   Petite Miss (6 - 7 years)   Young Miss (8 - ­9 years)

  • Dresses should be formal age appropriate pageant dresses.  

  • Natural appearance (light makeup and soft hair) 

  • NOT ALLOWED: Flippers and hair pieces

  • Makeup should be age appropriate. We are looking for a naturally beautiful girl.

  • Extensions are allowed for thee divisions but SHOULD LOOK NATURAL  

  • Tanning is allowed but should be kept VERY NATURAL.  

  • Girls will model a TRADITIONAL T-pattern  

Junior Miss (10 - ­12 years) and Teen Miss (13 - ­16 years) also have the option to particiate in OPTIONAL INTERVIEW

  • Optional Interview segment scheduled meeting with the judges panel prior to the beauty portion of the pageant which will last 3 minutes for Junior Miss and 5 minutes for Teen Miss.

  • Contestants will meet the SEGSBD Director and recieve pertinent information anout the history of the SEGSBD. Some interview questions may be drawn from this information as well as their fact sheet.

Miss (17­ - 21 years) ONLY will participate in MANDATORY INTERVIEW AND ON-STAGE QUESTION:  

  • Contestants will meet with the SEGSBD Director, and receive pertinent information about the history of the SEGSBD. ALL on-stage questions and some interview questions may be drawn from this information as well as their fact sheet.  

  • It is MANDATORY that ALL Miss contestants attend rehearsal. Miss contestants will receive pertinent information about the history of the SEGSBD. Please be sure that you can attend.. again this is MANDATORY for ALL Miss contestants. Please DO NOT ASK us to give you this information at a later time. It will be available during rehearsal time and will not be provided at any other time.

  • Interview segment ­is a scheduled meeting with the judges panel prior to the evening gown portion of the pageant which will last 5 minutes.

  • On-stage questions will be drawn from some of the information that will be reviewed during your meeting with the SEGSBD Director.  If there are more than 10 contestants in the group ONLY THE TOP 5 will participate in the on stage question.

Scholarship money will be awarded as follows:

Miss Queen - $1000 Frank Smith Scholarship money

Miss Interview Winner - $400 Scholarship money 

1st runner up - $300 Scholarship money 

2nd runner up - $125  Scholarship money

Teen Queen - $300 Scholarship money 

Teen Interview Winner - $150 Scholarship money

Junior Queen Winner - $100 Cash

Junior Miss Interview Winner - $75 Cash

Interviews for Junior, Teen, and Miss will begin at 2:00.
Interview times will be emailed to contestants on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Age determined as of pageant date, no fallback period. 
 
1. Only the first 20 applications received for each division will be accepted. The director(s) reserves the right to combine divisions if fewer than 3 contestants are entered in any division. 
2. Winners will receive: crown, trophy, and sash; runners up will receive a trophy; photogenic winner will receive an award; People’s Choice winner will receive an award. 
3. Runners-up will be determined according to participation in each group.
4. Applications are received online.  You can find a link for the application on Facebook or the Lyons Main Street website.   Deadline to enter: Sunday, February 11, 2024  (ABSOLUTELY NO APPLICATIONS will be taken after this date) 
5. An optional Photogenic Contest will be held in conjunction with this pageant. One winner will be awarded in each division. Submit an 8x10 color or black & white picture to the director on the evening of pageant practice. The participant’s name should be on the back of the submitted photo and may be picked up Saturday after the pageant.  Pictures not turned in at rehearsal will not be judged.
6. One winner per division will be chosen for People’s Choice. Votes for this award will be $1, and the contestant with the most money collected will receive the People's Choice award. You may start collecting votes early.  They can be turned in on pageant day.
7. IT IS MANDATORY that winners of each division agree to attend at least one night of weigh-ins, as well as, the Soap Box Derby event on Friday night AND the Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby Races. (Local Derby is May 4, 2024) The winner of the Miss division further agrees to serve as a spokesperson for the SEGSBD and, along with all division winners, agrees to appear in radio, television, print, and/or internet ads for the SEGSBD at the director’s discretion.  The winner of the Miss Division must be at ALL mandatory appearances and 50% of all other appearances in order to receive the full scholarship amount unless she has come to an agreement with directors or other arrangements. All queens are asked to ride in the Vidalia and Lyons Christmas parades which always fall on the first weekend of December each year (this is a mandatory event for the Miss Division winner).  Float or vehicle will be provided for queens to ride on.  
8. Out Of Town, highly qualified judges will be selected. There will be two sets of judges this year.  One set of judges for Baby-Young and a separate set of judges for Junior-Miss.  The SEGSBD Pageant Director will provide judges’ score sheets ONLY by email for up to one week after the pageant and by request. Contestants on-stage competition will be judged on beauty, poise/personality, and overall appearance. 
9. For the on-stage competition, contestants will model a traditional T-pattern and will compete in formal evening wear only.

11. All contestants must be single, never married and/or pregnant, and have never been convicted of a crime.
12. All Academic Scholarship monies for the Teen and Miss divisions will be awarded to the education institution of the winner’s choice, not an individual, pending the director’s approval. The designated queen must fulfill all assigned duties and responsibilities throughout her reign. Conduct for all Queens representing the SEGSBD organization is expected to be of the highest standards.

14. Admission is $8 per person.  All contestants THAT ATTEND PRACTICE Friday, February 16, 2024, will have one parent admitted free on the day of the pageant.  That parent will need to check in with the contestant on the day of the pageant and will have their hand stamped at check-in.
15. It is mandatory that all winners from the morning pageant will need to return for the evening pageant to be introduced and to be part of our 2024 Queen's Photo Shoot.
16. All queens, queen's court, photogenic winners, and people's choice winners will need to report to our photographer immediately following the crowning of each group to take division winner pictures.
