Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby Champions take on Akron!

Three Local Champions, four Rally Champs, and two Super Kids represented the Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby at the 84th FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, the third week of July. Racers gathered from around the country to compete and enjoy a week of fun and fellowship with the competition. The week started with a Welcoming Ceremony and Rock the Rec Champion Walk-In, where past Champions got to strut their stuff and enjoyed a few hours of mingling with old friends and making new friends. The races began on Tuesday with the AAA Local Challenge. The AUI Rally Challenge ran on Wednesday, and the Legacy and All-Stars ran on Thursday. Friday was set aside for the Super Kids Race, held for mentally and physically challenged kids. The week culminated Saturday with the Big Race, where dreams come true! After the races, trophies were presented to the top 9 winners in each category at a banquet that evening.

Our representatives did a great job, had a good time, and brought back trophies! Congratulations to Cash Driggers, the 2022 Rally Masters World Champion, Aidyn Driggers, the 2nd Place Local Super Stock winner, and Alyssa Head, the Masters 6th Place winner. 

The Lyons Main Street Board and Supporters are thrilled to continue Lyons' long-running tradition of the Soap Box Derby and to provide a family sport to our community.
